Please thank your US representatives for standing up for the truth. While we are grateful for this good news, when you read the articles (in the previous post), you can see the chances of this resolution going before Congress are slim and passage is even less likely.
Make no mistake, the reluctance of governments, including the United States, Britain and Israel, to use the term ‘genocide’ has everything to do with politics rather than the facts. Each of these countries’ archives contain some of the most damning evidence of the crimes committed by the Ottoman Turks against the Armenians and humanity.
The White House and State Department have once again shown their fear of Turkey, even though the list of countries officially recognizing the Armenian Genocide include:
- Argentina
- Armenia
- Belgium
- Canada
- Chile
- Cyprus
- France
- Germany
- Greece
- Italy
- Lithuania
- Lebanon
- Netherlands
- Poland
- Russia
- Slovakia
- Sweden
- Switzerland
- Uruguay
- Vatican City
- Venezuela
These international organizations officially recognizing the Armenian Genocide include:
- European Parliament
- Council of Europe
- World Council of Churches
- Human Rights Association (Turkey)
- European Alliance of YMCAs
- Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal
- Mercosur
- International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS)
- International Center for Transitional Justice
- Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity
Please keep the pressure on and pass the word.
Do this in memory of your parents and grandparents and every Armenian who suffered because there was an Armenian Genocide. And, do this so the world will stop playing politics and will join together to stop Darfur and prevent future genocides.
